There are authors who would be content with having written and published just one of the above bestselling books. Tom Clancy can take credit for all of them. His body of work is substantial and impressive, and it is with great sadness that we learned of his passing yesterday at the age of 66.
He actually sold his first manuscript (The Hunt for Red October) to the first publisher he tried, which, considering that some authors are rejected dozens and dozens of times, is truly amazing. President Reagan received a copy and made a comment about how the book was so good it was causing him to lose sleep. Clancy said he credits that comment with the book’s runaway success. And that success spawned many more novels and the release of several blockbuster movies starring actors like Ben Affleck and Harrison Ford.
If you’re worried you’ll have to do without another Clancy thriller, you can thank your lucky stars – there will be at least one more book released by the late author. Command Authority will be available in December 2013.
