During the winter, even in Texas, I find myself longing for sunnier, warmer climes. I picture white stretches of sugar-sand beaches, turquoise water, and bright sunsets. This may not be in the cards for me anytime soon, but we did manage to warm up a wintry day this past Monday at our What’s Cookin’ class. We took citrus as our theme and whipped up lemon curd, a grapefruit-avocado salad, and a frozen limeade pie. We also taste tested all kinds of interesting citrus, including a pink lemon, limequats, and something very appropriately called ugli fruit. It was a feast for the senses, and the gorgeous yellows, oranges, and greens filled me with thoughts of summer, which will have to do for the next few months until the real thing arrives.
Interested in our monthly cooking class? You should be because it’s a blast! Next month we’re so excited to have a guest chef who will teach us all about appetizers, just in time for the many sporting events we’ll all be attending. Join us Monday, February 11th at 4:30 p.m. in the Library Community Room.
