I don’t know about you, but I will freely admit that I occasionally judge books by their covers. In fact, I’ll often think, “That’s a terrible cover – what were they thinking?” or “Now that’s a great cover – I can’t wait to read it.” Unfair or not, I can’t be the only one who does this, right? While I don’t feel too bad routinely judging books by their appearance, I do wonder if our focus on aesthetics can sometimes keep us from reading something really fantastic or mislead us into picking up something awful.
So, in the spirit of not judging a book by its cover, for November, everyone in the library’s Main Street Book Club chose a different book. All the books were wrapped so that they couldn’t see the cover, title, or author, but they were able to read a brief synopsis and a few reviews. We will be meeting tomorow, Tuesday, November 13th at 6:00 p.m. in the Library Community Room to discuss our various books (note that this is a week earlier than our regular meeting time due to Thanksgiving).
There’s good news for those of you who did not have time to pick up a book. There are still several at the Information Desk if you want to participate in the book club tomorrow or if you simply want a new book to read and you’re feeling in the mood to take a chance. We’ll also leave a list of the books that were read this month if you’re looking for your next book to read!
