A Jam Packed Month

30 Mar

As I contemplate turning my calendar to April, I have to tell myself to take a deep breath.  See, for librarians, April is a big month.  It’s chock full of national celebrations, conferences, and holidays.  First up, there’s National Library Week, which runs from April 8th to the 14th.  This is a time when the country is encouraged to celebrate libraries and library staff.  This year the theme is “You Belong @ Your Library.”  And you do!  Because what or where would we be without the public?  You’re the very reason for our existence.  More details about how we’ll be celebrating this coming soon!

Then comes the annual Texas Library Association’s conference where thousands of librarians converge on a city (this year it’s Houston) and learn how to better practice their craft.  There are workshops, round table discussions, author luncheons, and a book cart drill team competition.  Yes, you heard that last bit correctly.  Check out this YouTube video if you don’t believe me.  And you thought librarians didn’t know how to get down!

Finally, this year, the Azle Memorial Library is celebrating Money Smart Week in partnership with the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and the American Library Association.  We’ve got a slate of wonderful speakers for the week of April 23rd through the 28th, who will talk about a variety of topics, including couponing, improving your credit, planning for retirement, and debt management.

And of course, we’ll be hosting our monthly movies, cooking class, and book club.  If you have any questions, please be sure to call us at 817-444-7216 or drop by the Information Desk.  As always, we’re happy for any suggestions you have about what you’d like to see us offering at your library.  Here’s to what’s sure to be a great month!

That video is FANTASTIC! I have to know– will Azle be entering a drill team?
