“Don’t you love New York in the fall? It makes me want to buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly-sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address.” (“You’ve Got Mail“)
It may still be 90 degrees here in Texas, but I don’t care. Because once Honeycrisp apples appear in stores, fall has officially arrived. And I find myself thinking about scarves and pumpkin patches and candy corn.
I also start thinking about all of the excellent books we have to look forward to that will be released in the next few weeks. There’s a whole bumper crop of novels from bestselling authors: “The Best of Me” by Nicholas Sparks; “Bonnie” by Iris Johansen; “The Litigators” by John Grisham; “Kill Shot” by Vince Flynn; and “Zero Day” by David Baldacci. A few literary novels to be released soon include “Falling Together” by Marisa de los Santos and “Nightwoods” by Charles Frazier. And don’t miss the charming new book out called “When Parents Text,” which caused me to laugh out loud while skimming it. The book by Sophia Fraioli and Lauren Kaelin includes pages of texts sent by parents learning this new technology. And the results are often unintentionally hilarious!
So put on your favorite sweater, grab a cup of hot apple cider, crank up the AC, and settle down with a new book.
